Guess was founded by Georges, Armand, Paul and Maurice Maricano, four brothers raised in Marseille, France. They moved to California from France in 1977 and founded the company in 1981. At first, retailers were reluctant to carry their unique style of acid washed jeans. Bloomingdale's, an iconic American department store, finally agreed to stock two dozen of these jeans as a favour to the brothers. The jeans sold out quickly but this was just the beginning for one of the most successful designer jeans brand in the world. The Guess brand has since been synonymous with quality and style in designer jeans, expanding into the trendiest cites in Southeast Asia. Today, guess carries a variety of lines, from handbags, children's wear, men's wear, women's wear, and fashion accessories such as watches, jewellery and perfumes.
